Meet Lea Kõiv! She is passionate about her Estonian heritage and community. Lea’s parents, Ants and Salomia Kõiv, taught her at a young age that she should contribute both time and money to build a strong community – Give to a cause that will bring you joy.

For Lea, that cause is being a long-time monthly donor to Estonian Foundation of Canada. “There are 85,000 registered charities in Canada with plenty of potential donors,” she says, “It is up to the Estonian community to support EFC, because EFC plays a vital part in preserving our heritage and ensuring our future!”

Lea knows that monthly donations provide predictable and stable funding for EFC, provide a greater impact over time, can be more affordable and easier to budget for the donor, and create a lasting habit of giving.

Lea is a well-respected Certified Professional Accountant based in Toronto, and in 2016, she established her own tax and retirement firm. She has worked hard and says she is able to donate both her time and money to the Estonian community she loves. “I will always be grateful to the community,” she says, “for giving me purpose, connections, and joy.”

Lea is an active community member and passionate about music. She studied voice at the Royal Conservatory, and sang in Estonia Choir for many decades. She also volunteers her time and expertise with Estonian institutions and charities because these organizations and initiatives bring the community together.

“I give to EFC because EFC gives directly to the community!” Lea views EFC as a stable and vital charity that donors can trust to manage and distribute donations. Philanthropy makes her feel good, while the tax benefits, such as tax receipts EFC provides, are equally important.
