Toronto Estonian Society - Toronto Eesti Selts

Toronto Eesti Selts, asutatud 1944. aastal, on koondiseks Torontos ja selle ümbruses elunevatele eestlastele ja mitte eestlastele, kelle rahvuslikuks ideaaliks on iseseisev ja sõltumatu Eesti Vabariik.  Seltsi liikmed koonduvad rahvuskultuuriliseks tööks, eestluse viljenemiseks ning innustavad, abistavad ja toetavad majanduslikult alluvaid organisatsioone ja teisi eestipäraseid Seltsi toetavaid ettevõtteid.  Seltsi peamine tegevus on Toronto eesti täienduskoolide, lasteaia ja täiskasvanute õpilaste heaolu juhendamine ja toetamine, ning ürituste korraldamine Eesti Vabariigi aastapäeva tähistamiseks.  Selts toetab ka noorsoo tegevusi ning korraldab meelelahustusüritusi vastavalt olukorrale.  Eesti sõduritele saatsime jõulurõõmu Täienduskooli laste kirjade ja jooniste näol sel sugisel. Samuti tervitasime kevadel Ehatare elanikke.

Järgmisel aastal on tõenäoliselt raske organiseerida üritusi COVID-19 piirangute tõttu, aga Selts loodab, et Eesti Vabariigi 103. aastapäeva pühitsemine toimub mingil viisil pühapäeval, 21. veebruaril 2021.a. ja saame siiski heisata Eesti lippu Eesti Maja ees. Jälgige Eesti Elu ja Facebooki teateid, kust saate lähemat informatsiooni. Aastapäeva tähistamine on seltsile kõige suurem tulutoov üritus. Sissetuleku rahadest saame teha toetusi aupeakonsulaadile, eesti koolidele ja lasteaiale, gaididele/skautidele ja teistele. COVID-19 piirangute tõttu ei saa loota EV103 sissetuleku peale. Sellepärast oleme väga tänulikud iga annetuse eest, mida saab teha otseülekandega meie kontole ühispangas (#5630) või laekur Elle Rosenbergi kaudu (mob: 416-970-5930 või e-post: elle.rosenberg@sympatico.ca). Proovime ka välistegevust organiseerida – nii et osalejad saavad olla 2 meetrit üksteisest kaugemal. Talvel vist on natukene raske, aga loodame kui ilmad soojemaks lähevad…

The Toronto Estonian Society, founded in 1944, is an organization for Estonians and non-Estonians living in and around Toronto whose ideal is an independent and sovereign Republic of Estonia. Members of the Society focus on cultural endeavours and the cultivation of Estonian community and heritage in the Toronto area, as well as encourage, assist and financially support affiliated organizations and other Estonian entities that support the Society and its activities.

The Society’s main activities are to advise and support Toronto’s Estonian Supplementary Schools, the Kindergarten and Estonian language classes for adult students, along with annually organizing Estonia’s Independence Day anniversary celebrations. The Society also supports and subsidizes other Estonian youth activities and organizes various other activities. With the Society's coordination, our supplementary school children have sent Christmas letters and drawings to Estonian soldiers serving abroad this fall. In the spring, the schoolchildren brought joy to the Ehatare Retirement Home residents by sending them drawings and cards as well.

Next year it will may be difficult to organize events due to COVID-19 restrictions but the Society hopes to celebrate the Republic of Estonia’s 103^rd anniversary in some way on Sunday, February 21^st, 2021 and most likely can still raise our flag in front of the Estonian House.  Please check the Estonian Life newspaper and Facebook for updates.  The anniversary celebration is our main fundraising event.  With the funds raised, we support the Honorary Consulate, Estonian schools and kindergarten, guides/scouts and others.  Due to probable COVID-19 restrictions, we do not expect to raise the necessary funds from EV103.  For that reason, we are very grateful for any donations received which can be made with a bank transfer to our account at the Northern Birch Credit Union (#5630) or via our treasurer Elle Rosenberg (mob: 416-970-5930 or email  elle.rosenberg@sympatico.ca). We hope to organize some outdoor activities – so that participants can remain 2 metres apart. It will be a bit difficult in the winter but hopefully when the weather warms up…..
